FIDUCIA NEL TESSILE

Home / textiltrust

FiduciaNelTessile240The label “Fiducia nel Tessile” was founded in 1992 by the  International Oeko-Tex® Association, to which belongs 15 research institutes in textile field in Europe and Japan, with representative agencies and contact offices  in over 50 countries around the world. The purpose of this association is to establish the declarations of conformity for all textile products, which must meet precise and strict security parameters on the use of substances harmful to human health and ecology in production systems.

The standard set by this association, the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, certifies the entire production phase, from raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of processing.

The tests for harmful substances comprise substances which are regulated and prohibited by law, known to be harmful, and parameters to safeguard the health of consumers. These controls concern specifically:

  • substances prohibited by law, such as carcinogenic dyes;
  • substances whose use is regulated by law such as formaldehyde, softeners, heavy metals or pentachlorophenol;
  • substances which according to current knowledge are harmful to health but that are not regulated or prohibited by law, such as pesticides, allergy-inducing dyestuffs or tin-organic compounds;
  • parameters such as color fastness and skin non-irritating pH value, useful for the protection of consumer health.

This kind of certification is valid for one year,  after which must be renewed. It can be granted every time, as long as the company meets the requirements.
In addition to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 standard, which applies to the products, there are also two other certifications, the Oeko-Tex® Standard 1000 and the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100plus.

The Oeko-Tex® Standard 1000 is a testing, auditing and certification system for environmentally friendly production sites throughout the textile chain that involves:

  • prohibition of the use of auxiliary and dyes harmful to the environment;
  • observance of standard values for the treatment of sludge and emissions;
  • optimization of energy consumption;
  • measures to prevent noise and dust;
  • measures to ensure safety in the workplace;
  • prohibition of child labor;
  • introduction of basic elements for an environmental management system.

The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100plus, instead, is the certification that embraces both previous. Companies can receive this award if their products have been successfully certified according to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 and can prove that the entire production chain – so all plants that contribute to the production of an article – complies with the requirements Oeko-Tex® Standard 1000.

Surely the label “Fiducia nel Tessile” is a significant advantage for consumers, but also for the same companies, in a sector where often the health risks are underestimated, forgetting that very frequently what we bring daily on our skin contains substances that, in the long run, can hurt our health, especially in the most sensitive subjects like children.
Therefore, companies that take advantage of this certification, must be rewarded, as retailers who rely on products from these companies, although at the moment are still not as widespread as they should.

Tiba Tricot S.r.l believes in this certification and in all that represents.
